Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL®) |
| The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL®) program, conducted by Educational Testing Service (ETS), provides English Proficiency Testing Services for international students planning to study in the United States, Canada or other countries where English is the language of instruction.
The Next Generation TOEFL® Test is the Internet-based test (iBT) introduced in September 2005 and replaces the earlier computer-based test (CBT). The TOEFL® iBT is available in India from May 2006. TOEFL® iBT has four sections:- Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. The test is approximately 3.5 hours long, with a 10-min break after the Listening section.

| In the reading section, most correct answer(s) earn 1 raw point, but some questions are worth 2, 3 or 4 points. In the Listening section, most correct answers earn 1 raw point, but some questions are worth 2 points. Each question in the Speaking section earn of 1-4 points. In the Writing section, the two responses will each earn a raw score of 1-5 points. In each section of the test, the total number of raw points are converted to a scaled score of 0 to 30. The four sectional scores are then combined to total the test score, which is on a scale of 0 to 120. |
| In India, TOEFL® iBT is conducted on fixed dates at the various Testing Centers spread across the country. The fee for the TOEFL® iBT is US$ 150. |
